The implications of the new Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) which starts to come into effect on January 1 of next year was one of the topics addressed at an IPAV Autumn Seminar in UCD on Monday night, November 06.
Buildings give rise to about 45% of energy related CO2 emissions in Ireland. The new Directive will mean that when a building is constructed, sold or rented, the owner must provide a Building Energy Rating (BER) Certificate to the prospective buyer or tenant. It is proposed to phase in the mandatory elements in three steps, beginning on January 1.
Paula Rice, Programme Manager with Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI) outlined the implications of the Directive at the well-attended seminar.
The seminar also heard a presentation from barrister Ruth Cannon on commercial lettings and related issues.
Both speakers along with IPAV President Sean Mason and Chief Executive Officer Fintan McNamara answered questions from members on related issues.
