IPAV Chief Executive Fintan McNamara signing a Memorandum of Articles of Association with Athlone Institute of Technology Director Professor Ciarán Ó Catháin at the Annual Convention. A new Bachelor of Business Degree in Real Estate (Valuation and Management) is to begin in September.

Due to the increased demand for qualifications in estate agency and related areas, Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT) is launching a new degree programme leading to a Bachelor of Business in Real Estate (Valuation and Management) (Level 7). The course is scheduled to commence in September 2007 and will initially operate by means of direct application to AIT.

This comprehensive programme will prepare students for a variety of professions in property and related areas and should prove highly attractive to Leaving Certificate pupils. The degree was developed, and will be run in partnership, with the Institute of Professional Auctioneers & Valuers (IPAV), which represents over 850 members nationwide.

The pooling of the resources of AIT and IPAV has guaranteed that the course reaches the highest standards of academic excellence, while containing essential practical detail. In addition to drawing on AIT’s considerable business expertise, the programme will be complemented by regular lectures from skilled practitioners in relevant fields.

While students will apply to the degree programme, after two years they will have the opportunity to graduate with an exit award of a Higher Certificate in Business in Real Estate.

It is hoped to add an honours degree year in 2010 – when the first Level 7 students graduate – leading to the award of Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Investment and Property Management. This will complete the full 4 year business programme.
