IPAV PRESS RELEASE
01st MAY 2006
IPAV APPOINT NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE

IPAV has announced the appointment of Fintan McNamara as its new chief executive. He succeeds Liam O’Donnell who retires from the position in mid June.

A native of West Clare, Mr McNamara was educated at UCD and later TCD where he studied for an M.Litt. He also studied law at Dublin Institute of Technology.

He has been active in the property industry in Dublin for the last 25 years. He served on the ad hoc Residential Tenancies Board, which was involved in monitoring and amending the legislative proposals that were incorporated into the Residential Tenancies Act 2004.

He is a member of the Private Residential Tenancies Board (PRTB). This is the dispute resolution mechanism established for landlords and tenants in September 2004

For many years Mr McNamara was the spokesman for the Irish Property Owners Association (IPOA). He is also Deputy General Secretary of UIPI the Federation of European Associations of Property Owners: an umbrella group covering 25 countries that lobbies in Brussels for the interests of home owners and investors.

Coming from an education background, Mr McNamara has a keen interest in the education and formation of auctioneers and estate agents. He is eager to play an active role in developing and expanding the Institute’s education programmes and to ensure they are widely accessible to all entrants to the profession. He plans equally to be proactive in the provision of continuous professional development programs (CPD) designed to maintain standards and regularly update IPAV members on developments affecting their business.

Commenting on his appointment, Liam O’Donnell said: “Fintan McNamara’s appointment gives a major boost to the Institute. His vast education experience combined with his indepth knowledge of the property industry ideally qualifies him for this challenging role. IPAV can now look forward with great confidence to the future.”
