Ian is best known for his work as a presenter on TV3, and as a communications consultant. From West Waterford, Ian has worked in media and communications for over 25 years. He has been current affairs editor at RTE Radio 1, editor of Newstalk’s breakfast show, and was head of news at Today FM where he worked for eight years. He has also been head of communications for the Progressive Democrats and worked for The Irish Times and regional radio stations.

Brian is President of IPAV and a Partner with DNG Property Advisors. Having completed an Honours Bachelor of Science in Estate Management Surveying in the 1990's Brian took up work in a leading Property Practice in Waterford City where he had worked on a regular part time basis for the previous 4 years before joining DNG in 2000 where he is now a Partner running their Stillorgan office. Brian also serves as an External Examiner at the Institute of Technology Tallaght Dublin for Auctioneering Estate Agency & Valuation on behalf of IPAV. He is also an accomplished photographer with photographs provided to various National Brands such as Irish Times, Irish Independent, Failte Ireland, Discover Ireland & Irish Central.
John Paul Phelan TD, Minister of State at the Department of Housing
Topic: The Important Role of Valuers
John Paul Phelan was appointed Minister of State at the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government with special responsibility for Local Government and Electoral Reform on 20 June 2017. He is a TD in the 32nd Dáil and was a member of a number of Oireachtas Committees, including: Budgetary Oversight (Chair); Petitions; and Budgetary Scrutiny (Chair). John Paul entered local politics in 1999 and served two terms in the Seanad before being elected a TD in 2011. The 38 year-old business graduate is a barrister and was a member of the banking inquiry. Deputy Phelan lives in Ferrybank in South Kilkenny and comes from a farming background.

A Canadian citizen, Michael MacBrien is trained in Belgian and European law. In the 1980s, at the European Banking Federation, he worked on the Directives that formed the basis for the EU Internal Market for Financial Services. In 1994, he co-founded the European affairs firm MACBRIEN CUPER ISNARD. In 1996-97 he oversaw the foundation of the European Property Federation and has been its director general ever since. He has been an advisor to TEGoVA, The European Group of Valuers’ Associations, since 2004.

John LeTourneau has been actively involved in both residential and commercial real estate for over a decade. He has served a wide range of clients from the entry level to the ultra-luxury, and completed office, retail, industrial, multi-family, and medical office transactions. As his career developed, John has always believed in giving back to the real estate community; and is an active educator and speaker. He is also a member of: the Board of Directors of The Main Street Organization of Realtors, which is the 3rd largest association in the United States; the Illinois Realtor’s Liaison to the Irish Consulate in Chicago, a Legislative Contact for State Representative David Olsen, a member of the International Committee, Commercial Committee, Professional Standards Committee, and Education Advisory Group at the Main Street Organization of Realtors. He speaks across the United States on a wide range of real estate topics and is a tireless advocate for raising the bar in the real estate industry.

Topic: Valuing specialised properties and robot wars for valuers
Roger is a senior partner with Wilks Head and Eve Chartered Surveyors, London where he has more than 30 years in practice. He is a highly experienced Valuer, who has been President of the IRRV (Institute of Revenues Rating and Valuation) in the UK on two occasions and also President of the Rating Surveyors Association. Previously Chairman of Tegova for some 8 years, Roger is now Vice Chairman of Tegova and Chairman of the European Valuer Qualifications Board. He is a current member of the IRRV Council, Rating Surveyors Association Committee and the Valuation Faculty Board of the IRRV.
Lorna Colley PhD Scholarship
Topic: conflict of interest in real estate valuations
Lorna has eight years of experience lecturing at both undergraduate and postgraduate level in the area of real estate, with extensive experience of compiling and delivering continued professional development sessions both privately and in role as lecturer both in Ireland and in the UK. Lorna previously worked as a Valuer for large firms such as Jones Lang LaSalle and provinicial practices such as Raymond Potterton & Co. and also provided consultant services for County Councils in compulsory purchase orders and acquired lands for schemes as Council Valuer. Lorna is currently undertaking her PhD, awarded the INM Scholarship, in the area of conflict of interest in property valuations and was awarded the INM Scholarship in September 2015 for a four year period to complete this work.

George Matysiak is a Visiting Professor at Cracow University of Economics. He also holds visiting positions at the School of Economics and Management (ISEG), Technical University of Lisbon and at Antwerp Management School. He was a Professor of Real Estate Investment at the University of Reading /Henley Business School and previously Senior Research Fellow at City University/CASS Business School, London.

Ivan Yates has had unique life experience in politics, business and media. A former government minister and Wexford TD for more than 20 years; an entrepreneur who founded and developed Celtic Bookmakers to employ 400 people, with €200 million turnover. He bounced back from bankruptcy in Wales in 2012 to become a highly successful national broadcaster presenting top-rated programmes on Newstalk and TV3; as well as a leading columnist with the Irish Independent newspaper. In 2014 he published his best-selling autobiography, ‘Full On’ with acclaimed reviews.

Pat Davitt founded Davitt & Davitt Auctioneers now known as Davitt Davitt & Partners trading as Sherry FitzGerald Davitt and Davitt Auctioneers in Castlepollard, Co Westmeath in 1980. Pat became a Member of IPAV in 1980, was elected to Council 1983 and became a Fellow in 1987. He served as President from 1987 to 1989 and from 2002 to 2003. Now in his current position as IPAV's CEO, Pat oversees the Educational and Industry requirements of IPAV’s 1,100 members and manages the Institute’s daily affairs. Pat was elected to The European Group of Valuers Associations (TEGoVA) Board of Directors in April 2017. Pat is also a member of TEGovA's European Valuation Qualifications Board (EVQB) and also a member of their Recognition Committee. Pat played a major role in taking the European “Blue Book” (EVS) European Valuation Standards, the “REV” Recognised European Valuer and the “TRV” TEGoVA Residential Valuer status to IPAV Valuers and Ireland and is a “REV” valuer himself.
