Conference Moderator, Ivan Yates
Ivan Yates has had unique life experience in politics, business, and media. A former government minister and Wexford TD for more than 20 years; an entrepreneur who founded and developed Celtic Bookmakers to employ 400 people, with €200 million turnover. He bounced back from bankruptcy in Wales in 2012 to become a highly successful national broadcaster presenting top-rated programmes on Newstalk and TV3, as well as a leading columnist with the Irish Independent newspaper. In 2014 he published his best-selling autobiography, ‘Full On’ with acclaimed reviews. Ivan co-hosts the top-rated political Podcast “Path to Power” with Matt Cooper since January.
His original forthright style of entertaining punditry and analysis on the full range of current affairs and sport has made him a much sought after motivational public speaker at corporate and formal events. He also acts as a versatile conference facilitator/moderator, MC with a flair for asking the questions that need answering.
Welcome Address, Lisa Kearney, President IPAV
Lisa Kearney is a director and co-owner of Rooney Auctioneers and holds the position of Head of Residential & New Home Sales at the same firm. With over 28 years of invaluable experience in real estate, Lisa has established herself as a trusted professional with a keen eye for market trends and a commitment to delivering exceptional service to her clients. Lisa’s academic journey has equipped her with a diverse skill set to excel in her field. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy, demonstrating her understanding of human behaviour and interpersonal dynamics, which enriches her approach to client interactions and negotiations. Additionally, Lisa has pursued further education with a diploma in Property Law and a Certificate in Marketing, further enhancing her expertise and proficiency in the real estate market.
Lisa also serves as a board member and currently holds the position of President of the Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers in Ireland. Her involvement in this esteemed organization underscores her commitment to upholding & adhering to best practices & professional standards and advancing the real estate profession in Ireland. Dr.Sopon Pornchokchai, President, Thai Appraisal and Estate Agents Foundation
Dr.Sopon has had experience in real estate research and valuation since 1982. He teaches valuers, brokers, developers, financiers, planners and consultants at undergraduate and graduate levels in Thailand and abroad. He gained a PhD in land and housing from AIT and had further property valuation training from LRTI-Lincoln Institute of Land Policy and housing from KU Leuven (Belgium).
Currently, Dr.Sopon is the President of FIABCI Thai, the Thai Appraisal and Estate Agents Foundation and the Agency for Real Estate Affairs, IAAO representative to Thailand, Director of Thai Real Estate Business School, and a member of the Global Valuation Forum of the Appraisal Foundation (USA).
His research master pieces include the discovery of 1,020 slums (1985), CAMA (computer-assisted mass appraisal) modeling (1990), forecast of 300,000 unoccupied housing units (1995 and 1998), study for property information centre (2000), roadmap for valuation, Ministry of Finance, Vietnam (2006), Ministry of Finance, Indonesia (2008), World Bank Indonesia (2010), Ministry of Finance, Cambodia (2012), UN World Cities (2015), ASEAN Property Surveys (2017), Global Municipal (2017), and Bangkok Zoo relocation (2019).
Emmet Creighton, Client Partnership Director, Daft.ie
As a seasoned expert in the property industry, Emmet, in his role as Client Partnership Director, has led transformative initiatives at Daft.ie, significantly enhancing client collaboration and forging strategic partnerships. With over 20 years of experience, Emmet excels at building business alliances that closely align with key industry bodies, including IPAV and its members.
At the IPAV Valuation Conference, he will provide valuable insights into property valuation from a digital perspective, offer an in-depth analysis of property sellers’ behaviors before selecting an agent, and share his vision for how the industry will adapt and thrive in the coming years.
Jim Power, Owner-Manager, Jim Power Economics
Jim Power has worked as an economist in the private sector for over 35 years. He is owner-manager of Jim Power Economics, an economic and financial consultancy, which he set up in 2009.
He was previously Treasury Economist at AIB (1987-1991), Chief Economist at Bank of Ireland Group (1992-2000) and Chief Economist Friends First Group (2000 to 2018). He is a board director of Love Irish Food, BMW Financial Services and Arboretum Garden Centre. He is a member of the Institute of Directors in Ireland.
He successfully completed the Institute of Directors Diploma examinations in Company Direction in 2022. He teaches on the Executive MBA and the Full-Time MBA at Smurfit Business School, UCD.
In February 2021, Jim and Chris Johns launched their own Podcast ‘The Other Hand’, which is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and other podcasts hosts.
He lives in Dublin and is a native of Waterford. He comes from a farming background.
Lisa Keogh, Director, CBRE Ireland
Lisa is a Director in the Hotels team at CBRE Ireland. She has been working for CBRE Hotels since 2011 including three years of experience working in Toronto, Canada. Lisa works across the Hotels team and is involved on both the Valuation and Advisory side of the team as well as Investment Properties, with particular focus on Operator Selection processes.
In recent years Lisa has worked on numerous hotel single asset, resort and portfolio valuations across Ireland. On the advisory side Lisa has strong experience working on feasibility studies, independent business reviews, operator selection and development projects.
Underlying her experience, Lisa graduated from Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Property Studies. Lisa is a Member of the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (MSCSI) and The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and is an RICS Registered Valuer.
Jeremy Moody, Secretary and Adviser, The Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (CAAV)
Jeremy is secretary and adviser to CAAV since 1995 and is an independent adviser. He is Vice Chairman of the European Valuation Standards Board; visiting Professor of Rural Land Management and Policy at the Royal Agricultural University; Harper Adams University’s first honorary doctor; TEGOVA Assembly member, Freeman of the City of London and Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Farmers. Jeremy deals with governments in London, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Belfast and Brussels and other bodies as well as the many practical issues and questions posed by valuers, farmers, property owners and others.
Patricia Kuczynska, Commercial Valuer, GVM Auctioneers
With over 18 years’ experience in valuation, Patricia is a Chartered Valuation Surveyor and European Recognised Valuer involved in undertakings for a range of property types. Patricia has worked on many multi-million euro valuation projects in New Zealand, Ireland and Poland for open market and rating purposes.
She has been a Property Institute of New Zealand (PINZ) Property and Valuation Standards Board Committee Member for almost 3 years. She was involved in valuation guidance framework revision and development, advisory and training to the PINZ members.
Patricia wrote submissions, papers and articles focused on valuation standards and regulatory framework, also ESG factors in the property market and valuation including climate-related risks, sustainable financial disclosures and building energy efficiency.
This broad knowledge base has given Patricia an understanding of different aspects of property valuation and property markets. She thinks that the valuation requires professional skills and value of a property is made up of many factors, some of them are market and economic conditions, risks, sentiment, tends, as well as property market and economic cycles analysis.
Patricia is a member of the Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers in Ireland (IPAV), Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI), as well as the Polish Federation of Valuers’ Associations (PFVA).
She was born in Poland. She achieved masters’ degree in the faculty of management, two postgraduate diplomas in valuation and financial analysis, also completed the law of property module on Massey University in New Zealand.
Cathal Lawlor, Chartered Tax Adviser, Trusts and Estate Practitioner, Lawlor Partners
Cathal Lawlor is a Chartered Tax Adviser and Trust and Estate practitioner specialising in private client taxation, including Capital Gains Tax and Capital Acquisitions Tax, tax efficient transfer of assets, Income tax planning, residence and domicile matters, termination payments, family partnerships and VAT on property.
He is an alumnus of both Deloitte and Mazars where he managed the firm’s private client department before joining the family practice. He qualified from the Institute of tax in 1999 and has over 25 years’ experience advising on Private client tax affairs for high-net-worth individuals.
Supported by a qualification in trust and estate planning awarded by the Law Society, he has developed a niche area in delivering solid tax support to Solicitor firms on a consultancy basis enabling them to manage their probate cases tax efficiently and give their clients the very best knowledge and expertise on matters related to tax.
He has presented to various business forums, wealth management practices and Chambers of Commerce and has contributed to several national publications on Tax matters.
Philippe Guillerm, International Partner, Cushman & Wakefield, France
Philippe Guillerm joined Cushman & Wakefield Expertise Paris in June 2008 as Managing Director and became Chairman in March 2009. He is responsible for a number of valuation portfolios for National and International clients, overseeing all the valuation work on retail, office and industrial properties. He specialises in advising investors and foreign buyers and coordinates and oversees all valuations carried out by the team. Philippe was also the Chairman of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in France between 2006 and 2008. Prior to his arrival in C&W, Philippe worked for CBRE in Paris as Managing Director of the International valuation team.
Since March 2017 in Cushman & Wakefield Valuation France SA, he is now Deputy Managing Director.
Pat Davitt, CEO, IPAV
Patrick Davitt FIPAV REV MMCEPI Currently CEO of IPAV, Pat has worked in the auctioneering industry for over 40 years. In the absence of any national valuations standards in Ireland he spearheaded the introduction of the ‘Blue Book’ European valuation standards in 2013. These standards are recognised by the Irish Central Bank and the European Central Bank for which they hold default status. Pat was appointed to the 2023 Board of Directors of the National Association of Realtors® (NAR), is a current Board member of CEPI the European Association for Real Estate Agents and also a member The European Group of Valuers Associations’ European Valuation Qualifications Board.
