House Prices – Emergency Measures Needed – IPAV

Commenting on the latest CSO House Price Index for February IPAV, the Institute of Professional Auctioneers & Valuers, said no one should be surprised at the continuing upward trajectory in prices, given the paucity of supply of homes.

Pat Davitt, IPAV’s Chief Executive said; “Whatever package of new measures come from Government, we believe it must include emergency planning rules, for a period of time.”

He said increasingly home ownership is becoming the preserve of those with means, on high salaries or those lucky enough to have family financial support

“It feels like many have become inured to the depth of the problem, since the lack of supply has become so deep rooted and prolonged,” he said.

And he said the new housing tzar, as reported, would need strong powers to effect fundamental change.
