Conference Moderator, Ivan Yates

Ivan Yates has had unique life experience in politics, business and media. A former government minister and Wexford TD for more than 20 years; an entrepreneur who founded and developed Celtic Bookmakers to employ 400 people, with €200 million turnover. He bounced back from bankruptcy in Wales in 2012 to become a highly successful national broadcaster presenting top-rated programmes on Newstalk and TV3, as well as a leading columnist with the Irish Independent newspaper. In 2014 he published his best-selling autobiography, ‘Full On’ with acclaimed reviews. His original forthright style of entertaining punditry and analysis on the full range of current affairs and sport has made him a much sought after motivational public speaker at corporate and formal events. He also acts as a versatile conference facilitator/moderator, MC with a flair for asking the questions that need answering.   

Welcome Address, John Kennedy IPAV President

John is currently the MD of 4property and CKP with over 19 years’ experience in design and technology specialising in real estate publishing and management CRM systems. John started his career working in engineering/manufacturing in Intel in Leixlip before transferring to supporting operations in the software departments. He left this career path to setup a software company that provided services to the property industry which later became 4property.com. In parallel, John built up a portfolio of management properties and developments and in 2012 merged with Casey Properties of Stillorgan with multiple other small agencies to form Casey Kennedy Estate Agents (CKP) who provide the full range of services in residential and commercial. John joined the Institute of Auctioneers and Valuers in Ireland in 2015 and was elected to Council in 2021. John is a qualified TEGOVA Residential Valuer and is also a member of the Institute of Engineers of Ireland. 


Speaker: Krzysztof Grzesik, Chairman of the Board of Directors TEGOVA

Krzysztof is a recognised European Valuer, with many years of experience as a property consultant in the UK and mainland Europe. In the UK he had been a partner of Kinney & Green, chartered surveyors in the City of London before setting up the real estate services arm of Price Waterhouse in Poland in 1991.  At that time, he also undertook consultancy work in the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Russia. In 1997 he joined Healey & Baker (Cushman & Wakefield) as a partner and in 2000 he became managing partner of King Sturge Poland. In 2004, he set up Polish Properties Sp. z o.o. specialising in the valuation of commercial property across Poland. Krzysztof is the Chairman of TEGOVA. He is also a past Chairman RICS Europe and the International Representative of the Polish Federation of Valuers’ Associations.   

Speaker: Michael MacBrien, Adviser to TEGOVA & Editor of European Valuer

A Canadian citizen, Michael MacBrien is trained in Belgian and European law. At the European Banking Federation in the 80s, he worked on the Directives that formed the basis for the EU Internal Market for Financial Services. In 1994, he co-founded the European affairs firm MACBRIEN CUPER ISNARD which has provided the secretariat of TEGOVA since 2004 and has been Editor of European Valuer since 2020. He is Director General of the European Property Federation (Irish member Property Industry Ireland) and leads a coalition of the European real estate industry currently intervening in the public debate over the building-relevant legislative proposals in the European Green Deal.    

Speaker: Phil Hogan, Business Consultancy firm, Managing Director 

Phil Hogan is a former Member of European Commission. He served in the portfolios of Agriculture & Trade from 2014 to 2020 respectively. During that time he was involved in managing the Common Agriculture Policy and its Budget(410 Billion Euro), opening new market opportunities for food exporters arising from the Russian Embargo, assisting in the negotiations of several trade deals with various countries including China, Japan, Vietnam, Singapore, Mexico, Mercusor. Phil forged a new relationship with the United States of America in respect of trade and technology. For 27 years, Phil Hogan was a Member of the National Parliament of Ireland and Minister for Environment & Local Government from 2011 to 2014. He was born in Kilkenny, Ireland and is a graduate of University College, Cork (BA, Econs).


Speaker: Ella Dunphy, Director, DNG Ella Dunphy & Member of TEGOVA European Business Valuation Standards Board 

Ella Dunphy established her auctioneer's practice in 2002, which was the first female-owned Estate Agency in Kilkenny’s property sector. She was joined by her son Ciarán in the business in 2009. Having gained a reputation for excellence, uncompromising standards and in-depth local knowledge, the nationwide franchise Douglas Newman Good invited Ella Dunphy to join their team in 2004, and to date she operates as Director of DNG Ella Dunphy.  Ella has extensive experience in block management, residential, agricultural land & commercial sales. Ella is a qualified TEGoVA Recognised European Valuer and a Board Member of the TEGoVA European Business Valuation Standards Board (EBVSB).  She is an expert Valuer excelling in commercial valuations. Ella was served as IPAV President in 2018. Ella continues to take an active role on IPAV’s expert committee in advising, monitoring, and recommending council policies. She is also an active- member of the Board of the Property Services Regularity Authority since 2019.


Speaker: Jeremy Moody, Secretary and Adviser, The Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (CAAV)

Jeremy is secretary and adviser to CAAV since 1995 and is an independent adviser. He is Vice Chairman of the European Valuation Standards Board; visiting Professor of Rural Land Management and Policy at the Royal Agricultural University; Harper Adams University’s first honorary doctor; TEGoVA Assembly member, Freeman of the City of London and Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Farmers. Jeremy deals with governments in London, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Belfast and Brussels and other bodies as well as the many practical issues and questions posed by valuers, farmers, property owners and others.   

Speaker: Cathal Lawlor, Chartered Tax Adviser, Trusts and Estate Practitioner, Lawlor Partners

Cathal Lawlor is a Chartered Tax Adviser and Trust and Estate practitioner specialising in private client taxation, including Capital Gains Tax and Capital Acquisitions Tax, tax efficient transfer of assets, Income tax planning, residence and domicile matters, termination payments, family partnerships and VAT on property. He is an alumni of both Deloitte and Mazars where he managed the firm’s private client department before joining the family practice. Cathal has presented to various business forums, wealth management practices and Chambers of Commerce and has contributed to several national publications on Tax matters.   

Speaker: Luca Bertalot, Secretary General of the EMF-ECB

Luca Bertalot is Secretary General of the European Mortgage Federation - European Covered Bond Council (EMF-ECBC), representing the interests of EU mortgage lenders and the covered bond community in discussions with the European Institutions and stakeholders in general on all issues relating to the retail and funding sides of the mortgage business. Established in 1967, the EMF is the voice of the European mortgage industry, providing data and information on European mortgage markets, which were worth over €8.3 trillion at the end of 2021 (EU27 + UK). In 2004 the EMF founded the ECBC, a platform that brings together covered bond market participants including issuers, analysts, investment bankers, rating agencies and a wide range of interested stakeholders. ECBC members represent over 95% of covered bonds outstanding, which were worth over €2.9 trillion at the end of 2021. 

Speaker: Colin Smith, Senior Director CBRE London

Colin has been involved in compulsory purchase and compensation throughout his career which began in the District Valuers Office. Joined CBRE in 2006 as Head of Compulsory Purchase and Compensation. Now works as a strategic adviser/expert witness, primarily on HS2, airport and energy projects. Has appeared as an expert witness at the Lands Tribunal and The High Court on numerous occasions several with involvement in several leading cases. Frequent contributor at conferences and seminars in the UK and the USA. Chairman of the Compulsory Purchase Association 2007/08 Honorary Secretary 2009/2013 awarded Honorary Membership 2014.

Speaker: Rita Carney, Senior Director JLL

Rita is a Senior Director in the Office Agency team at JLL. Rita works closely with a wide range of clients, advising from initial strategy, through to the overall marketing and leasing campaigns. Rita has over 16 years experience in the commercial property market, having worked on many large-scale developments such as 60 Dawson Street, Charlemont Square, 1WML, Coopers Cross and Number One Ballsbridge. Rita has a strong knowledge base of the office market in Dublin and how it is responding to the recent disruptors of the rise of remote working and global economic challenges.

Patrick Davitt FIPAV REV MMCEPI Currently CEO of IPAV, Pat has worked in the auctioneering industry for over 30 years. In the absence of any national valuations standards in Ireland he spearheaded the introduction of the ‘Blue Book’ European valuation standards in 2013. These standards are recognised by the Irish Central Bank and the European Central Bank for which they hold default status.  Pat was appointed to the 2023 Board of Directors of the National Association of Realtors® (NAR), is a current Board member of CEPI the European Association for Real Estate Agents and also a member The European Group of Valuers Associations’ European Valuation Qualifications Board.
